Oleander flowers are fragrant and trumpet shaped that can either be single or double and grows in showy, branching clusters usually in the colors of white, yellow, rose, red, salmon, some are even bi-colored. They bloom from spring through summer and are tolerant to heat, they prefer sunny light instead of winter. Oleander can be seen growing as decorations for freeways and highways since they are tolerant to drought and vehicular air pollution.
Watering the oleanders
Oleander does not need supplemental fertilizer but may do so in the event of chlorosis or when the leaves turn yellowish. Generally, water is all that is needed to maintain this oleander tree. Water every two to three weeks in summer when the plant is young and every month or less once its mature.
Pruning oleanders
Pruning is important to get rid of dead, damaged or diseased wood. Do this after spring bloom or throughout the season as a means of control. Prune with care as flowers, leaves and all parts of the plant are poisonous when ingested.
